How to Protect Your System
Rinse your outdoor unit monthly. A simple garden hose rinse removes salt deposits before they cause corrosion. Do this more frequently if you live directly on the water.
Apply coil protectant. During your maintenance visit, ask about protective coatings for condenser coils. These create a barrier against salt corrosion and extend coil life significantly.
Consider a coated coil system. When it is time for a replacement, look at systems with factory-coated condenser coils designed for coastal environments. Brands like Carrier and Trane offer coastal-rated units.
Protect electrical connections. Salt corrosion on electrical contacts causes intermittent failures and can damage control boards. During maintenance visits, we clean and protect all electrical connections.
Elevate your outdoor unit. If your unit sits on a ground-level pad, consider elevating it. This protects against storm surge flooding and reduces splash-back corrosion from rain hitting sandy or salty surfaces.
